ALEJANDRO GONZÁLEZ IÑÁRRITU TRIBUTO EN EL FICCI 54
ALEJANDRO GONZÁLEZ IÑÁRRITU TRIBUTE AT FICCI

Lunes 10 febrero 2014

Leader of the recent Mexican Cinema Renaissance, Alejandro González Iñárritu, one of the most prestigious directors in Mexican history, will receive a tribute from the Cartagena International Film Festival. The director will be offering a master class to FICCI's audiences

González Iñárritu's films look right into the souls of human beings, their emotions and the social environment within which they live. His career's decisive moment came with his first feature film Amores perros (2000), nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars, globally establishing him within the film industry as one of Latin America's most important directors of the new century. During FICCI, audiences will have the opportunity to view his groundbreaking work, which, at the time, proposed a fresh model of storytelling and impacted audiences with its powerful rawness. This film also launched the acting career of its protagonist, Gael García Bernal, and Guillermo Arriaga's career as a screenwriter.

Amores Perros' success allowed Iñárritu to quickly gain access to Hollywood, where he directed 21 Gramos (2003). This film, in which the past, present and future blur eloquently, features Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio del Toro, among other stars.

His next film, Babel (2006), delves into the reality lived on the U.S.-Mexico border, the intense contrasts between Japan and Morocco and the children's relationship with guns. This film, starring Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gael García Bernal, was a six-time nominee and Oscar winner, and received a Golden Globe for Best Film and a Cannes award for Best Director.

With Biutiful (2010), Iñárritu's work went from the ensemble cast and multinarrative style of his first three films to a story constructed around one main character, Uxbal, played by Javier Bardem who won Best Actor at Cannes for his role.

Iñárritu is currently in-production for Birdman (2014), a film he wrote and directed starring Emma Stone and Edward Norton.

Participants of the 54th FICCI will have the opportunity of attending the Tribute honoring Alejando Gonazlez Iñárritu on Sunday, March 16th, as well as his Master class the following day during Salón FICCI – the festival's academic program.
