13 películas INOLVIDABLES
en la sección GEMAS
El FICCI 55 trae trabajos recientes de grandes maestros del cine mundial y una selección de películas destacadas durante 2014 y 2015, premiadas en los principales festivales del mundo. Por su calidad y diversidad, la vigencia de sus temas y las innovaciones estéticas y narrativas, nuestras GEMAS quedarán grabadas en la memoria de todos los asistentes al festival.
El FICCI anuncia las películas que se proyectarán en la sección Gemas. Esta sección, que desde el 2013 es competitiva, otorga este año a la película ganadora el premio Gemas RCN, que consiste en un plan de promoción televisiva por USD$50.000 a través del Canal RCN para su lanzamiento en Colombia.
Dentro de las películas que el público colombiano tendrá la ocasión de ver se destacan las últimas películas de dos grandes maestros del cine europeo: Wim Wenders y Jean-Luc Godard. La sal de la tierra (coproducción de Francia, Brasil e Italia), una impactante mirada al trabajo del fotógrafo brasileño Sebastião Salgado, fue codirigida por Wim Wenders y Juliano Ribeiro Salgado y ganó el Premio Especial del Jurado en la sección Un Certain Regard, el Premio del Público en San Sebastián y recientemente obtuvo dos nominaciones: Mejor Largometraje Documental en los Premios Oscar y Mejor Película Europea en los Premios Goya. Adiós al lenguaje (Adieu au Langage) de Jean-Luc Godard, su primer largometraje en 3D, ganadora del Premio del Jurado en Cannes. También presentará las últimas películas de importantes directores como el mauritano Abderrahmane Sissako y el español Jaime Rosales. Sissako es el director de Timbuktu (Francia, Mauritania), ganadora del premio del Jurado Ecuménico en Cannes y del premio a Mejor Director en el Festival de Chicago, y nominada a Mejor Película de habla no inglesa en los Premios Oscar 2015. Hermosa Juventud (España, Francia) de Jaime Rosales, hizo parte de la Selección Oficial de Un Certain Regard en Cannes, y su protagonista, Ingrid García-Johnsson, estuvo nominada a Mejor Actriz Revelación en los Premios Goya y recibió el premio a la Mejor Actriz del Festival de Cine de Lisboa -Leffest-. Del gran director y actor estadounidense Tommy Lee Jones traemos el fascinante western The Homesman (Francia, Estados Unidos), Selección Oficial de Cannes 2014.
El FICCI se enorgullece de presentar una cosecha de películas de jóvenes directores que están transformando el cine mundial. La francesa Los combatientes (Les Combattants), dirigida por Thomas Cailley, recibió el Premio de la Federación Internacional de la Prensa Cinematográfica –FIPRESCI– en la Quincena de Realizadores del Festival de Cannes, además de ser Selección Oficial del Festival de Gijón. La coproducción turco-alemana La canción de mi madre (Annemin sarkis / Song of my Mother) de Erol Mintas, ganó el premio a Mejor Película en el Festival de Sarajevo.
Plemya (The Tribe), de Myroslav Slaboshpitsky, coproducción entre Ucrania y Holanda, ganó el premio a Mejor Ópera Prima en los Premios del Cine Europeo y el de Mejor Película en la Semana de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes. El FICCI 55 contará también con Buscando a Hagen (Fehér Isten / White God) de Kornel Mundruczó (Hungría, Alemania, Suecia), ganadora del Premio Eurimages en el Festival de Sevilla y Mejor Película en la sección Un Certain Regard en Cannes. Continuando la lista estará la película polaca Body / Ciało (Body) de Malgorzata Szumowska, que tendrá su estreno mundial en la Competencia Oficial del Festival de Berlín y menos de un mes después la veremos en Cartagena.
Por otro lado, está la cinta de la directora iraní Ana Lily Amirpour, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (Estados Unidos, Irán). Esta película sobre una mujer vampiro que se toma la justicia en sus propias manos, ganó el premio a Mejor Director Novel en los Premios Gotham, y obtuvo tres nominaciones, incluyendo a Mejor Fotografía, en los Independent Spirit Awards; también estuvo en la Selección Oficial del Festival de Sitges.
La cuota latinoamericana viene desde Brasil con El hombre de las multitudes (O Homem das Multidões) de Marcelo Gomes y Cao Guimarães, que en 2014 ganó el premio a Mejor Película en el Festival de Toulouse, además de tener su premier internacional en la Sección Panorama en Berlín 2014. Por último, la colección de Gemas 2015 contará con la participación de Black Coal, Thin Ice (Bai ri yan huo) de Diao Yinan (China), ganadora del Oso de Oro a Mejor Película y Mejor Actor para Fan Liao en el Festival de Berlín 2014.
Estas son las 13 Gemas que el FICCI ha seleccionado para que queden guardadas en la memoria de todos los asistentes a la edición número 55 que se llevará a cabo del 11 al 17 de marzo de 2015.

13 Unforgettable Gems
FICCI 55 brings audiences the most recent films by the great maestros of world cinema and a pick of the award-winning productions of 2014 and 2015. Diverse as far as topics go and groundbreaking in their aesthetics and narratives, these quality GEMS will remain engraved on your memory long after the festival is over.
FICCI has finished selecting the films that will be participating in Gems, a section of the festival that has been competitive since 2013. This year, the winning film will receive the Gemas RCN Prize, which consists of a USD$50,000 promotional plan for its launch via Colombia's RCN television channel.
Festival-goers will have the chance to see the latest films by two of Europe's greatest maestros: Wim Wenders and Jean-Luc Godard. The Salt of the Earth (a co-production by France, Brazil and Italy), an insightful documentary on the work of the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado, was co-directed by Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, and won the Special Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes, the Audience Award at San Sebastián, and was recently nominated for Best Feature Documentary at the Oscars and Best European Film at the Goyas. Adieu au Langage, Jean-Luc Godard's first 3-D feature film, won the Jury Prize at Cannes. Our program also includes recent works by established directors like Mauritania's Abderrahmane Sissako and Spain's Jaime Rosales. Sissako directed Timbuktu (France, Mauritania), which won the Cannes Ecumenical Jury Prize, Best Director at the Chicago Film Festival and was nominated for Best Non-English-Language Film at this year's Oscars. Rosales' Hermosa Juventud (Spain, France) competed in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes, while his lead actress, Ingrid García-Johnsson, was nominated for Best Actor Revelation at the Goyas and won Best Actor at the Lisbon Festival (Leffest). Riding up the rear is the great American director and actor Tommy Lee Jones, who treats us to a thrilling western, The Homesman (France, United States), selected to compete at Cannes in 2014.
Balancing out the playing field is a sampling of films by young directors who are changing the face of world cinema. Les Combattants, by France's Thomas Cailley, won the FIPRESCI Award at Cannes Directors' Fortnight and was selected for the Gijón Festival, while the Turkish-German co-production Annemin sarkis/Song of My Mother by Erol Mintas won Best Film at Sarajevo.
Myroslav Slaboshpitsky's Plemya (The Tribe), a co-production by the Ukraine and Holland, won Best First Film at the European Film Awards and Best Film at Cannes Critics' Week, while Kornel Mundruczó's Fehér Isten /White God (Hungary, Germany, Sweden) took home the Eurimages Award at Seville and Best Film in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes. Completing our sparkling list is the Polish film Body / Ciało by Malgorzata Szumowska, which will make its world premiere at Berlin and travel to Cartagena less than one month later.
Iranian director Ana Lily Amirpour brings us A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (United States, Iran), a film about a vampiress who takes justice into her own hands. Amirpour won Breakthrough Director at the Gotham Awards and received three nominations, including Best Photography at the Independent Spirit Awards. A Girl was also selected to compete in the Sitges Festival.
Representing Latin America is Brazil with O homem das Multidões by Marcelo Gomes and Cao Guimarães. Winner of Best Film at the Toulouse Festival in 2014, O homen premiered in the Panorama Section of the 2014 Berlinale. And last but by no means least, Black Coal, Thin Ice (Bai ri yan huo) by China's Diao Yinan won a Golden Bear for Best Film, with Fan Liao walking away with Best Actor at the 2014 Berlinale.
