Diana Bustamante Escobar, directora artística del FICCI, será jurado del Festival de Cine de Róterdam

La cineasta, reconocida como uno de los motores fundamentales del cine colombiano reciente, será jurado de la Competencia Oficial en la edición 46 de uno de los festivales más exigentes y reconocidos del mundo.

El cine colombiano sigue siendo valorado en los más diversos espacios de la industria cinematográfica internacional. Las doce películas producidas por Diana Bustamante Escobar han sido parte de las selecciones oficiales de importantes festivales como Cannes, Berlín y Locarno. En 2015, La tierra y la sombra ganó la Cámara de Oro en el festival francés. Otras de sus películas, entre ellas El vuelco del cangrejo y La Sirga, se han convertido en referentes de las nuevas busquedas y logros del cine colombiano y latinoamericano.

Junto a otros miembros de la industria audiovisual internacional, Diana tendrá la responsabilidad de elegir lo mejor de la Competencia Oficial de un festival que reúne trabajos de gran calidad y riesgo artístico, dándoles una importante ventana de exhibición ante la audiencia y la industria.

Una vida con el cine

Diana es egresada de la Escuela de Cine y Televisión de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Junto a Ciro Guerra y Cristina Gallego fue socia fundadora de Ciudad Lunar Producciones; posteriormente concentró su energía en el nacimiento y evolución de Burning Blue, que es no solo una empresa de producción cinematográfica, sino un espacio para pensar y construir modelos de creación audiovisual que hagan posible la existencia de un cine que se resiste a ser consumo desechable y desde la cual, se desarrollan herramientas para el continuo descubrimiento de nuevas miradas para nuevas audiencias.

Desde 2013 se vinculó al FICCI como productora general, cargo que ocupó hasta el 2015, año en el que asumió la dirección artística de éste, el festival de cine más antiguo de América Latina. Desde su cargo le ha inyectado un estilo único y de altísima calidad a los contenidos que se disfrutan en este evento que hoy por hoy se posiciona como uno de los más vitales en la región.

El ojo colombiano en el cine internacional

El Festival Internacional de Cine de Róterdam -IFFR, por sus siglas en inglés- reúne cada año a más de 300 mil espectadores y más de 2.500 profesionales del universo audiovisual, en doce días de proyecciones y encuentros. La Competencia Oficial, otorga el Premio Tiger a la Mejor Película y el Premio del Jurado por Logro Artístico Especial.

El criterio, la experiencia y el conocimiento de una de las profesionales más destacadas de la industria nacional recibe así un reconocimiento más que merecido. Diana ha convertido la producción en un trabajo creativo que desarrolla de forma generosa y con altos estándares de calidad. Su impulso y compromiso con la carrera de jóvenes cineastas ha cristalizado en películas que no solo ven la luz sino que se instauran en el panorama del cine latinoamericano más interesante y renovador.

Considered a fundamental pillar of recent Colombian cinema, the filmmaker will be a member of the jury of the Official Selection during the 46th edition of one of the world's most demanding and prestigious film festivals.

The international recognition of Colombian cinema in many sectors of the industry continues. The twelve films produced by Diana Bustamante Escobar have been included in the official selections of prominent festival like Cannes, Berlin and Locarno. In 2015, Land and Shade won the French festival's Caméra d'Or Award. Some of her other films, such as Crab Trap and La Sirga have become landmarks of the new explorations and achievements of Colombian and Latin American cinema.

Together with other members of the international audiovisual industry, Diana will have to pick the best from the Official Selection of a festival that features works of high artistic quality and audacity and offers them an important access to the public and the industry.

A life in films

Diana graduated from the Colombian National University's School of Film and Television. With Ciro Guerra and Cristina Gallego, she co-founded Ciudad Lunar Producciones. Later, she dedicated her energy to the creation and growth of Burning Blue which, more than just a film production company, is a think-tank that builds new models of audiovisual creation, paving the way for a kind of cinema that refuses to be a disposable object of consumption, and a space to develop tools for the continuous discovery of new approaches for new audiences.

She became the FICCI's general producer in 2013 and, in 2015, she assumed the artistic direction of the festival, the oldest in Latin America. Through her work, she has brought a unique style and the highest quality standards to the selection of an event that has become one of the most vital in the region.

A Colombian eye on international cinema

Each year, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), brings together over 300.000 spectators and over 2.500 industry professionals during twelve days of screenings and events. The jury of the Official Selection designates the winner of the Tiger Award for Best Film and the Jury Award for Special Artistic Achievement.

This invitation is a well-deserved acknowledgement of the judgment, experience and knowledge of one of the most outstanding professionals of our national film industry. Diana has transformed production into a creative effort, which she carries out generously and with the highest quality standards. Her support and engagement in favor of young filmmakers permeates many films that not only come into existence but also become part of the renovated and increasingly interesting landscape of Latin American cinema.
