El FICCI rinde tributo al icónico actor francés Denis Lavant Inmortalizado en la cinematografía mundial por sus reconocidas interpretaciones en películas como Holy Motors y Les amants du Pont-Neuf, Denis Lavant recibirá un tributo en la edición 57 del Festival Internacional de Cine de Cartagena de Indias -FICCI-. Una selección de siete de las producciones más relevantes en las que ha participado –entre casi un centenar– se presentarán en la edición 57 del Festival y el actor hará parte de la programación académica del Salón FICCI. La presencia de Lavant en Cartagena hace parte de las actividades del Año Colombia Francia 2017, la cual es posible gracias al Institut Français y a la Embajada de Francia. En 1984, Denis Lavant lanzó de forma definitiva su carrera cinematográfica como protagonista de la película Boy Meets Girl, ópera prima del realizador francés Leos Carax, con la que el director recibió el Premio de la Juventud en el Festival de Cannes de ese año. Este film marcaría el inicio de una estrecha relación entre el realizador y el talentoso actor nacido en 1961, en Neuilly-sur-Seine. Los papeles de Lavant se han caracterizado por ser muy exigentes a nivel corporal, y por involucrar, en algunos casos, la danza y la acrobacia. Los rasgos distintivos de su rostro, capaz de expresar un amplio rango de emociones, y su disciplina y pasión por la actuación, han hecho que su imagen se haya quedado instalada en el imaginario del cine mundial y, particularmente, en la rica y nutrida cinematografía francesa. A este reconocimiento, Leos Carax ha contribuido considerablemente: Lavant es protagonista en toda la filmografía de este director, con excepción de una producción. De la mano de Carax también vino uno de sus papeles más icónicos. En Holy Motors (2012), encarnó a un polifacético y camaleónico actor al que nunca lo graba cámara alguna, pero que personifica diversos y contradictorios roles. Por esta actuación, Lavant recibió el Silver Hugo a Mejor Actor del Festival Internacional de Cine de Chicago; en esa ocasión, el jurado declaró que le otorgaba el premio "por brindarle vida a un personaje que es alternativamente trágico, hilarante, chocante, profundo, horroroso, hermoso, sabio –pero siempre humano– y, simplemente, como nada que antes hubiéramos visto", cualidades que van más allá de este personaje y que se pueden ver en cada uno de los roles que ha interpretado. También ha recibido distinciones en los Indiewire Critics' Poll, los International Cinephile Society Awards y los Toronto Film Critics Association Awards, además de numerosas nominaciones en otros eventos, incluyendo los Premios Cesar. En 2017, el FICCI 57 se honra en rendirle tributo a este artista, presentando siete de sus títulos más reconocidos, que incluyen la maravillosa historia de amor de Les amants du Pont-Neuf (1991) y la memorable Holy Motors (2012), ambas de Leos Carax; la búsqueda de la gloria militar confrontada con un tenso erotismo en Beau Travail (1999) de Claire Denis; la alucinante y misteriosa Tuvalu (1999) de Veit Helmer; su "interpretación" de Charlie Chaplin en Mister Lonely (2007) de Harmony Korine; la última entrega de la serie Walker de Tsai Ming-liang Journey to the West (2014); y la coproducción argentina Eva no duerme (2015) de Pablo Agüero. A selection of seven of the most important films in which he took part (out of almost a hundred) will be shown throughout the Festival's 57th edition, and the actor will participate in the Salón FICCI's academic sessions. Lavant's presence is part of the events of the France-Colombia year, supported by the Institut Français and the French Embassy. In 1984, Denis Lavant kicked off his cinematographic career when he starred as the main character of Boy Meets Girl, the first film of French director Leos Carax that won him the Special Award of the Youth in Cannes that year. The film would be the first episode of a close relationship between the director and the talented young actor, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine (France) in 1961. Lavant's roles are often physically demanding and sometimes involve dance and stunts. The distinct features of his face, which allow him to express a wide range of emotions, together with his discipline and his passion for acting, have fixed his image in the imagination of world cinema, especially in the rich and fertile French cinematography. Lavant has greatly contributed to this recognition: he has been the main actor in the director's whole filmography, except for one production. It was thanks to Carax that he was given one of his most iconic parts. In Holy Motors (2012), he embodies a multifaceted and chameleonic actor who is never filmed by any camera, but who plays diverse and contradictory roles. For this part, Lavant was awarded the Silver Hugo for Best Actor at the Chicago International Film Festival. The jury said he deserved the award "for giving life to a character that is at once tragic, hilarious, shocking, profound, horrendous, beautiful, wise – but always human – and, quite simply, one we had never seen before". All these talents go far beyond the character, and can be found in many roles he's played. He also received awards from the Indiwires Critics' Poll, the International Cinephile Society Awards and the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards, and even a Cesar award. FICCI 57 is honored to pay tribute to this artist in 2017 by presenting seven of his most acclaimed features, including the beautiful love story The Lovers on the Bridge (1991) and the memorable Holy Motors (2012), both by Leos Carax, the search for military glory confronted to a tense eroticism in Beau Travail (1999) by Claire Denis, the hallucinating and mysterious Tuvalu (1999) by Veit Helmer, his "interpretation" of Charlie Chaplin in Mister Lonely (2007) by Harmony Korine, Journey to the West, the latest entry of Tsai Ming-liang Walker series (2014) and the Argentinean co-production Eva Doesn't Sleep (2015) by Pablo Agüero.
