Salón FICCI: seven years thinking of film beyond the screen
For seven years, Salón FICCI has been the space for the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival (FICCI) to promote discussion on issues of interest to the public and to the industry in the region. From Thursday, March 2, through Sunday, March 5, FICCI 57 will host discussions, presentations, debates, master classes and launches, among other events, that will bring together filmmakers, actors, industry leaders and academics that have impacted and transformed the sector with their work.
In its seventh year, Salón FICCI will offer discussions on issues related to the relationship between contemporary society and film: war and peace, or the need for “reality cinema"; important industry issues such as the script, the audience, public programs for the promotion of film, technological changes in both the production and consumption of films and their aesthetic impact; and new training initiatives including how to bring film to Colombia’s remote municipalities.
The following are some of the events occurring at Salón FICCI:

In its 25th edition, the Cuadernos de Cine Colombiano will present several approaches that show the relationship between film and television in Colombia. In connection with the retrospective of Brazilian documentarist Eduardo Coutinho, part of the FICCI 57 program, João Moreira Salles (filmmaker, producer and journalist), María Campaña Ramia (Ecuadorian documentarist, programmer, and journalist), and Patricia Ruiz (Colombian documentarist, producer and professor) will discuss Countinho’s work. Rubén Mendoza and Paz Encina, whose films are a part of the Official Documentary Film Selection; Luciano Barisone, the Director of Visions du Réel (one of the emblematic festivals of “reality cinema”); and Marta Andreu, documentarist, producer and professor, will discuss the genre of the documentary: a genre that is moving further away from its traditional forms, reformulating the debate on the representation of reality.
DENIS LAVANT DOES NOT EXIST
Panel Discussion
Friday, March 3
16:00 - 17:00
AECID Central Patio
Denis Lavant is perhaps the most enigmatic of all the characters that he has ever played as an actor. While he may have one of the most memorable faces in the history of film, the person behind his many masks seems to hide behind the characters he brings life to, which is why his performances are always filled with striking strength and vitality. The French actor will discuss what acting means to him together with Antoine Sébire, the Director of the cinematographic and audiovisual project Écla Aquitaine.
VINCENT CASSEL: FROM LA HAINE TO THE END OF THE WORLD
Panel Discussion
Saturday, March 4
16:00 - 17:00
AECID Central Patio
Together with Colombian director of actors, Juan Pablo Félix, French actor Vincent Cassel will discuss his training, experience as an actor and producer, and his work with directors such as Xavier Dolan, Jacques Audiard, Mathieu Kassovitz, Mateo Garrone and Gaspar Noé.
* Remember that all Salón FICCI events are subject to availability and priority access will be given to accredited participants. It is suggested to arrive early.
